Remember this sad figure from Worlds in March? It seems like poor Mirai has done it to herself again. Narrowly in first after the short programme she had a chance to win gold if she just did what she was capable of. This was her chance to erase her demons from previous performances.
But it wasn't to be. Despite a beautiful new programme, she singled an axel, fell on a triple flip and two footed some of her other jumps. In Mirai's defence she is fighting her way back from a stress fracture in her foot. She ended up in the loneliest place of all. 4th
I hope Mirai can have a better outing at her second event. Not necessarily to get to the Grand Prix Final, but to give her confidence heading into Nationals and the rest of the season.
I'll have a full competition report later on today.
