Intentions

I am not really a holiday person. I don't have a favorite holiday, I don't really look forward to any particular one, and I don't get terribly excited about them. I always feel there is something forced about a holiday, a combined sense of obligation and expectation that mask whatever its initial intention was. But I'm also not a non-holiday person. I don't refuse to celebrate, nor do I get upset about any given holiday taking place. Mostly, I try to find something I can appreciate about each occasion and I go with the flow.

On New Year's Eve, I appreciate the opportunity to set an intention for a new year. I can set an intention on any given day, of course, but the fact that this one is supposed to count for a whole year- perhaps forever- gives it a different power. No matter how many times a goal may not have been met in the past, there's always a refreshed hope that maybe this time it will work. After all, we have been strengthened by another year- we are not the same people we were in the previous new year's eve- this could very well be the year when we do take up tap dancing, when we do learn Italian, when we do save enough money to go to Ireland, when we do eat more carrots, and when we do get around to reading Anna Karenina.

So I sit here, on the 31st of December, wondering what could be my intention for 2011. There are always the familiar dilemmas. Is it more important to think about acquiring a flat stomach or to stop obsessing over my body image? Neither has ever been a very realistic goal, so is this the year when I give up on both of them? Do I want to think about getting a reliable job or do I want to keep dreaming? Should I redefine my career expectations or should I feed my persistent fantasies? Do those things really matter, anyway? Maybe I should just go for "good health" and "peace on earth" and leave it at that.

I breathe deeply. I need to listen to my higher Self, I need to listen to my heart.

What do I really want?

As soon as my mind quiets down, I hear a response. The answer surprises me. It is clear and specific, and it comes to me in a very, very strong voice.

I want to be free of expectations without losing sight of what I am meant to be in this life.

Well. All right. That will be my intention for this new year.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2011, may we all listen to our inner voices and make room for what we really want.

Wish You All A Very Happy New Year :) :)

Gymnastics 2010 - A year in Photos

The gymnastics year started with Rebecca Bross winning the American Cup,
New face Alexandra Raisman also made a splash on the international scene.

In March the European Championships came to Birmingham,
The host took impressive silver medals in the men's and women's team events.

But it was the Russian Divas who walked away with the team title.

Romania showed that despite management and financial issues,
they still can produce stand-out performers.

The unstoppable Beth Tweddle defended her bars and floor titles.

Team USA visited Australia to dominate the Pacific Rim Championships...

Then put out impressive performances at home for Nationals
Rebecca Bross and Mattie Larson looked ready to take on the world...

Young stars Viktoria Komova, Tan Sixin and Diana Bulimar
gave us a glimpse of the future at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, olympic champions Shawn Johnson and Nastie Luikin returned
to the gym in a bid to make it to London 2012

Age falsifications regarding Su Jong Hong meant that North Korea recieved a 2 year ban from international gymnastics, forcing them out of the 2012 Olympic games.

Team Australia swept the all-around medals at the Commonwealth Games

Whilst British veteran Imogen Cairns shone to win Vault and Floor titles.

Team Russia were victorious in Rotterdam, winning their first World team title,

Whilst rising star Aliya Mustafina put in Virtuoso performances to win the All Around

Mixed fortunes for Team USA as Rebecca Bross once again missed out on a world championship gold medal, Alicia Sacramone roared back to win the Vault title.

Team GB had their fair share of success (and bling) in the event finals.
Australian Lauren Mitchell added to her Commonwealth success by winning her
country's first world championship gold on floor exercise.

And Team China finished the year by dominating the Asian games, with Sui Lu winning the all around, balance beam and floor titles.

graciously congratulated the new Olympians

Joannie Rochette became a symbol of olympic courage skating
just days after the death of her mother.

Yu-Na Kim smashed records and demolished the field on her way to gold,
led and supported through it by her coach Brian Orser.

A collection of emotions from the olympic medallists.

2006 Olympic Champion Yevgeny Plushenko couldn't defend his title,
finishing behind american Evan Lysacek

In a year of comebacks it was Shen & Zhao who made it all the way to the top of the podium.

Canada's sweethearts, Virtue & Moir set a new standard on their way to gold,
making Mahler's Symphony no. 5 their own Bolero.

Sharing the spotlight and the honours with American training mates, Davis & White.

The 2010 World Championships was a story of elation, followed by disappointment for
talented young American, Mirai Nagasu.

Yu-Na joined the club of great champions,
inviting Kwan & Cohen to join her in All That Skate.
Few knew that a split with Orser was in order as she moved to California.

New faces for a new olympic cycle,
Young talents Kanako Murakami and Sui & Han

And redemption for some familiar faces,
Alissa Czisny wins gold at the Grand Prix Final.

And December brought the return of Mao,
Skating out like a breath of fresh air at the Japanese Nationals.
