Michael Johnson, Four-time Olympic champion & BBC Sport pundit

"Since I've got here I've been asked about Usain Bolt and Oscar Pistorius so there is huge interest in Oscar. Purely from an analysis standpoint, he is starting to get into shape at just the right time so it could be very interesting in the next two rounds to see how far he can get."

ATHLETICS

Oscar Pistorius: "In the blocks I didn't know whether to cry or be happy but then thought I had a job to do. It was an amazing experience. This crowd is amazing. I've run so many times in the UK and this crowd is like a second home to me."

ATHLETICS - Kirani James wins 400m heat

World champion Kirani James from Grenada stretches his long legs to win the second heat of the men's 400m in 45.23. He made that look very easy indeed, slowing up well before the line. Ramon Miller of the Bahamas and Independent Athlete Liemarvin Bonevacia are the other qualifiers.

TRIATHLON

Four-time Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington: "Helen Jenkins is in an absolutely great position. I expected her to push early on [in the run] and that's exactly what she has done.

"She hasn't got the strongest kick and she's in good company with some strong competitors. She has come out fast but she hasn't managed to put a gap between herself and the others at this stage.

"A sprint finish won't suit her but she will have prepared for that possibility and planned for it in her training."

Ollie Williams, BBC Sport at the triathlon in Hyde Park

"Halfway through the running finale of the women's triathlon and it's building to one of the most pulsating finishes in the sport's reasonably brief Olympic history.

"Britain hasn't had a winner since triathlon was introduced at Sydney 2000, but Helen Jenkins is one of just five women at the front with 5km to go.

"Jenkins went into the Beijing 2008 Olympics as the world champion and finished 21st. Now, she's in her home Olympics as the world champion again and it's between her, Erin Densham, Nicola Spirig, Lisa Norden and Andrea Hewitt. All five are among the very best in the sport. It'll be a great finish."
