Australian mare Ortensia produced a near last-to-first move to land the Group Two King George Stakes at Goodwood on Friday under in-form jockey William Buick.
The Paul Messaratrained winner had been a disappointing ninth in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot before finishing fourth in the July Cup at Newmarket run on testing ground.

Success: William Buick riding Ortensia (R) wins The Gordon's King George Stakes at Goodwood
But the 6-1 winner joined fellow Aussie sprinter Black Caviar as a winner in Britain this summer with a length and a quarter win from Spirit Quartz with Masamah third.
Buick, who rides favourite Izzi Top in today's feature Group One Nassau Stakes, said: 'She was head and shoulders above the rest of them.
'I don't think she'd ever been downhill before and Paul said that I shouldn't ask her to do anything she didn't want to do.
'I think she'd be better over six furlongs but York (Nunthorpe Stakes) would be fine for her. Obviously, she'll be going back to Australia soon but I'd like it if she stayed.'
Trainer Mark Johnston is in pole position to claim his eighth title as Glorious Goodwood's top trainer after Fulbright gave him the fifth winner of the week in the Betfred Mile.
Richard Hannon-trained Strong Suit, who has bypassed Glorious Goodwood to run in tomorrow's Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, faces a formidable opponent in Freddie Head's 2011 winner Moonlight Cloud who was last seen when a head second to Aussie supermare Black Caviar. The 10-runner line-up also includes Eve Johnson-Houghton's July Cup runner-up The Cheka.
