Pride and Falls - Day 1

Forgive the late update. I've been away from the gymnastics action today but felt I couldn't head off to bed without a quick update on proceedings after Day 1 of Qualifying.

1 RUSSIA
234.521
2 CHINA
233.778
3 ROMANIA
228.495
4 GREAT BRITAIN
224.921
5 AUSTRALIA
224.785
6 ITALY
219.179
7 JAPAN
218.895
8 BRAZIL
217.130

Russia sits atop the pile with only the USA of the major team medal contenders still to go. Mustafina and Nabieva both succeeded in getting their names in the code of points by submitting new skills on bars (Mustafina - double back with 1 1/2 twist. Nabieva - Toe on Layout Tcatchev)
Success did not come without a few falls though- notably Ksenia Semenova, who managed to crash out twice on her floor routine.

The Current All Around standings look like this with Mustafina ahead of the pack. Hannah Whelan of GB looks assured of an All Around final place, currently in 10th. Nicole Hibbert may also sneak in. She is currently in 20th (including multiple entries from several of the leading nations). Full credit goes to Ana Porgras, Raluca Haidu and Jiang Yuyuan for their excellent all around placements so far having battles injuries and consistency issues in recent times.

1 MUSTAFINA Aliya RUS
60.666
2 JIANG Yuyan CHN
58.099
3 HUANG Qiushuang CHN
58.065
4 PORGRAS Ana ROU
57.898
5 MITCHELL Lauren AUS
57.865
6 NABIEVA Tatiana RUS
57.565
7 HAIDU R. ROU
56.199
8 FERRARI Vanessa ITA
56.124

GB performed well overall. Beth Tweddle rocked bars and is currently sitting in 3rd for the event final between He Kexin and Huang Quishan of China. Floor was not disaster but a deep landing on her final tumble and several smaller deductions mean that she will not make floor finals this time around.
