Your Friday Monkey Dacker Poacher Stopper

According to field staff from the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, several young gorillas have been spotted destroying snares that are set to maim and kill wild apes. “Today, two juveniles and one blackback worked together to deactivate two snares and how they did it demonstrated an impressive cognitive skill,” a staff person from the Karisoke Research Center told the Huffington Post. Just two days before, one such snare had severely injured a young ape named Ngwino, who dislocated her shoulder in a desperate attempt to escape. What’s worse, she contracted gangrene from cuts to her leg.

John Ndayambaje, the Fossey Fund field data coordinator, said he saw a group of gorillas nearing a snare, when a silverback called Vuba made a sound of warning. Two juveniles and a blackback responded by running toward the snare and destroying it with their bare hand. They did the same to another snare nearby.

Your Friday Panda Dacker Sliders

I confess; I couldn't find any monkey articles or videos, so I settled for these Pandas.  They're cute, too.

Your Friday Monkey Dacker Invaders

More than 13,000 monkeys have been trapped since 2007 in New Delhi, India, but more and more of the creatures keep appearing. The problem? People keep feeding the dang things thanks to Hindu tradition. The city's wildlife agency says the monkeys aren't their problem as they aren't wild any more. Tell that to the family of a deputy mayor who died back in 2007 after falling from his terrace during a monkey attack. Or the 14-year-old girl who was chased recently by monkeys off a five-story roof. One solution that's been floated? Get bigger monkeys to scare off the smaller ones. Don't be surprised when one of these hairy guys eventually runs for mayor.
Bigger monkeys than those to scare off the others?  I don't think there are enough Gorillas left in the world.

There might be some advantage to living in a nation with no native primates, unless you count Sasquatch.

Your Friday Monkey Dacker Butt Licker

Sorry about missing last Friday's Monkey Dacker post, but I was otherwise engaged in Alaska.  This week's Monkey Dacker is the zookeeper who licked the monkey butt to save the monkey.

Zoo Caretaker Licks Monkey’s Butt To Help It Defecate

Wuhan Zoo Monkey caretaker Zhang Bangsheng unbelievably used his tongue to lick a small monkey’s butt!

50-year-old Zhang Bangsheng used warm water to clean a small Francois’ Leaf Monkey’s buttocks, then began using his mouth to lick it, not stopping for over an hour, until the little monkey defecated a single peanut. Only after the peanut was defecated did Zhang Bangsheng laugh with satisfaction.

As it is understood, this small Francois’ langur is only 3 months old, and is the first Francois’ Leaf Monkey to be born in nearly 10 years at this animal park. The Francois’ langur is a rare primate from Guangxi and Guizhou and is amongst the nation’s most protected animals. Because it is so precious, the zoo gave it to model worker and high-level expert Zhang Bangsheng to care for and raise.

On the first day of the “May 1st” short holiday, Zhang Bangsheng let the small Francois langur enter the monkey exhibit for the first time to meet visitors so it can see more of the world. The next day, Old Zhang discovered that the little monkey had indigestion and difficulty defecating, and immediately became worried. Seeing peanut shells on the ground, Old Zhang immediately understood that visitors had definitely tossed peanuts to the small monkey, and the toothless monkey swallowed the peanut whole. If it does not quickly defecate it, it would endanger the little monkey’s life.

Because the monkey is too small, it wasn’t suitable to use medicine to let it defecate. The only way was to lick its butt, to prompt it to defecate the peanut, and so the scene at the start of this article occurred.
Now, there is a man dedicated to his job...

Friday Monkey Dacker - They're Doing Better Than Me

The orangutans at Miami’s Jungle Island apparently are just like people when it comes to technology. The park is one of several zoos experimenting with computers and apes, letting its six orangutans use an iPad to communicate and as part of a mental stimulus program. Linda Jacobs, who oversees the program, hopes the devices will eventually help bridge the gap between humans and the endangered apes.

“Our young ones pick up on it. They understand it. It’s like, ‘Oh I get this,’” Jacobs said. “Our two older ones, they just are not interested. I think they just figure, ‘I’ve gotten along just fine in this world without this communication-skill here and the iPad, and I don’t need a computer.’”
Right now, I'm wrestling with our IPad, trying to get songs and pictures synced on it so we can take it on a trip and listen to music and have pictures to blog with (no, not my while library). I hate the Apple structure; it takes away the control over files I'm accustomed to having in Winders.  I hate feeling like an old dog.
