British football club West Ham look poised to become the permanent residents of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium following the games. The club have been confirmed as the organising commitee's preferred bidder following a unanimous vote.
A rival bit was posted from club Tottenham Hotspurs. The decision is based on the fact that Spurs expressed a desire to change the stadium to a football-specific venue, removing the running track etc and having football fans closer to the side of the pitch.
West Ham have promised to maintain the venue as a multi-sports arena and the commitee felt this would better maintain the legacy of the games.
