Crone & Poirier dance to gold.

In the absense of the Olympic champions, it was Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier's national title to win or lose. They won, but by a narrow margin over rivals Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje.

Canada has 3 dance spots to the Worlds in Tokyo, but bronze medallists Alexandra Paul and Mitchell Islam will likely miss out on the trip as Virtue & Moir intend to be competition ready in a few more weeks and are pretty much assured of a free ticket.

Paul & Islam's lyrical and romantic free dance to 'As Time Goes By' is remeniscent of V&M's 2008 'Umbrellas of Cherbourg' programme. But then, there are much worse things to be compared to. Dance may be Canada's deepest discipline. The oldest of these skaters is Poje at the grizzly old age of 23!
