Imitation - the highest form of flattery?
Defending US Champion Rachael Flatt has announced she will be coming to Nationals next week with a new short programme to East of Eden by Lee Holdridge.
Whilst this is likely a positive and mature change for the skater who is known for peppy, lighter music, she will have a big shadow to skate in. Many skating fans of recent years will still have fond memories of the 9 time US champ Michelle Kwan's iconic performances to this music.
Does Rachael have the style to carry off a piece with such emotional depth? It's a bit like ice dancers taking on Bolero, it's pretty hard to beat a 'perfect' interpretation.
All credit to Rachael for trying to mature her image though (it was felt her two programmes this year were too similar). She will be trying to defend her title this week against several more stylish (although often less consistent) skaters such as Alissa Czisny and Mirai Nagasu.
In another example of imitating your idols, YuNarsha on twitter posted this photo of two of the artistic roller skaters at the recent Asian Games. Their costumes bear a striking resemblance to a certain figure skating champion!
