I am so happy to greet one and all from Sahan's space. She is the one who reached me by accident searching another Anupama[Shetty] and I was wondering who is this bubbly stranger who poured out a lot of enthusiasm, love and joy on me!She never waited to know whether I was the real Anupama whom she wanted to reach.Non stop she went on sharing the news alien to me!:)

Gradually, when the curtain was drawn ,I have one more friend in my list!:)

And today I want to introduce this bubbly friend to the world.

The auspicious day of Makar Sankranti and Pongal and Lohri! The festive season is here again!Makar Sankranti is the festival that marks the beginning of the harvest season and is celebrated all over the country on 14th/15th January. In North India is it is called 'Lohri'.People distribute sugarcane juice and sesame sweets. In some parts like Rajastan, the festival is celebrated by flying kites.Cattle will be worshipped on the day of Mattupongal.

Enjoy the glorious sunrise. The Sun God begins its ascendancy and entry into Northern Hemisphere.Let's pray to Sun God...This festival marks the culmination of winter and sun's entry into the Makar Raashi[Northern Hemisphere].

Sankranti is considered a deity.According to a legend Sankranti killed a demon named Sankrasur. The day followed by Makar Sankranti is called Kinkrant or Karidin. On this day,the female deity[Goddess] killed the demon Kinkarasur.

Celebrations start with people preparing and distributing sweets, laddoos made of sesame and jeggery called 'Tilgul'.Married women observe the ritual of 'Haldi Kumkum' on this day.The 'Haldi Kumkum' lasts till the period of 'Ratha Sapatami'.

On this day women dress up in the best clothes and wear heavy jewelery. The ritual of exchanging gifts in the form of household articles like grocery items or even sweets like tilgul and sesame laddoos is followed.Haldi Kumkum is applied onto the forehead of the married woman.

A newly married woman goes to her maternal home and offer 'Sughad' which is a small mud pot
tied with thread that has black beads strung onto it.Vermilion and turmeric powder is applied to the pot which is filled with paddy grains, wheat, chickpea, grams, lentil, sesame seeds with jaggery, vermilion, turmeric, etc.Five pots are placed on a wooden seat and a rangoli is drawn around the seat. The pots are offered to the deity with leaves and areca nuts which is followed by performing 'Aratis'.After the first year of their marriage ,the women can perform this ritual at their husbands' place.

So,my dearies, let us talk politely and sweetly.

May you go higher and higher to the brighter areas in your lives.

Let's grow in purity, knowledge and wisdom.

Thamaso Ma Jyothir Gamaya!

Hope you won't forget to watch the mesmerizing wonder on TV screen-Makar Jyothi that will appear in the sky near the popular Sabarimala-the abode of Lord Ayyappa.

Let's always make someone Else's day.
The festival time is the best to forget and forgive.
Let's celebrate the festival with great devotion, fervour and gaiety.
Don't ever let someone take your happiness,
Because it was never their's to take!

And when you distribute 'Tilgul'[the sweet sugar balls]please exchange sweet words too!
''He who is being carried does not realise how far the town is!''
So,let's know the real distance, the truth  and the honest friends.
May God Bless You On Your Life's Delightful journey!

Wishing One And All,The Very Best In Your Lives,

It's Anu signing off...............
